Frequently asked questions

  • Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct form of medicine that gained traction in the US in the early 1900s

Classically, Naturopathic physicians (NDs) emphasize whole patient wellness. This approach to healthcare observes each facet of the patient’s identity as an important point of intervention. These include diet, lifestyle, environmental exposures, movement and movement capacity, and past and current states of health.

  • Just like any specialist, having a Naturopathic Physician on your healthcare team adds depth to your care. At CGM, specifically, we spend an extensive amount of time reviewing your history, laboratory work, and concerns to develop a well-defined picture of you as an individual. We enjoy answering your questions about your health and the care you receive, and offer non-pharmacological options for healing.

  • The Center for Generative Medicine is an ‘out-of network’ provider and does not contract with insurance companies. At the end of each visit, we will provide you with an invoice detailing physician charges, and can include specific insurance codes upon request. You may submit this super bill with these codes to your insurance company for reimbursement as outlined in your plan documents. Naturopathic medical services in Connecticut are covered by most major medical insurers. Please check with your provider as coverage varies by plan.

  • An initial appointment is $350 (60-90 minutes), and all follow-ups are $275 (60 minutes). Our precision analytics and specialty testing vary in pricing.

  • Prior to your scheduled visit, our office will call to confirm that we have a credit card and address on file for you. We will also require that you have completed the necessary intake and consent paperwork completed in our portal, and upload any lab work relevant to your health goals. Our docs are legally unable to begin an encounter without having consent forms in place, and failure to complete them will delay the start time of your appointment and have you risk losing your time slot.

If you are doing an Opus23 genomic consultation or a microbiome analysis, you will need to complete the proper testing and have results shared with your doc. Please note that the results from these kits may take up to 8 weeks for processing.

  • Using a program called Opus23, we take the data collected from a salivary sample you complete prior to the appointment to organize and interpret your genomics. Your CGM doc will investigate roughly 20,000 clinically relevant SNPs (small changes in genes that result in variances in physiology). Opus23 patients receive a complete SWAMI23 nutritional plan at the end of their visit, and are able to use genomic analysis for all future appointments and concerns without additional charge.

  • The gut microbiome is an ecosystem within us that involves itself in nearly every aspect of human physiology - from localized gastrointestinal disruptions to systemic inflammation and hormonal and metabolic derangements. A microbiome analysis uses data gathered from a one-time sample to zoom in on your microbiome to generate systems-based inferences and interventions. Ideal for those with symptoms of gut and/or systemic dysfunction and inflammation, metabolic dysregulation, and hormonal disruptions.

  • Protocol length will vary depending on the nature and chronicity of your chief reason for seeking intervention. CGM’s medicine aims to reframe and redefine the entire ecosystem of your physiology to better support and sustain you. For this, we recommend at least 3 months of diligent compliance. Afterwards, we can assess your progress at your first follow up and make adjustments where necessary.

  • No referral is required to be seen by a CGM physician.

  • Because of limitations on naturopathic licensing in Connecticut, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer disease by naturopathic doctors is limited. Our role is a supportive one, working with your oncology specialists to design a cooperative treatment strategy that maximizes the effectiveness of conventional cancer care, while reducing the side effects of your treatments.

For safety reasons, any client with a cancer diagnosis seeking naturopathic medicine consultation at CGM  must have consulted with and preferably be followed by a Board Certified Oncologist and records must be made available for review prior to receiving naturopathic recommendations.

  • Consistent with the principles of naturopathy, our doctors spend time getting to know their patients so they are in a position to select the best healing strategies that will most appropriately stimulate and support your body's natural healing processes. Naturopathic care in CT covers everything from women’s health and internal medicine to pediatrics. Although many services at CGM are highly specialized, the staff physicians also offer office visits for well-care, acute illness or even your child’s camp physicals.

  • No. CGM is a specialty medical service and all incoming patients are required to have a primary care physician during their time as a CGM patient.
